Abstract

Variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) hydropower system tracks the maximum power of hydraulic turbine through variable speed operation to improve the power generation efficiency of hydraulic turbine. It has attracted extensive attention in the field of renewable energy. This paper presents a new fuzzy maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control strategy based on starting speed. Through the analysis of hydraulic turbine speed efficiency model, the starting speed fuzzy controller and fuzzy control MPPT are adopted in the tracking process, which improves the tracking speed and steady-state accuracy of VSCF system. The simulation to verify the effectiveness of the improved algorithm. Compared with the traditional perturb and observe method (P & O), the improved control strategy can track the maximum power of VSCF hydropower system faster when the water flow changes. The results show that it can reduce power oscillation and improve the power generation of the system.
