Although it may improve surgical training and accelerate the dissemination of advances in surgery, concerns exist regarding the safety of patients. We sought to assess the perioperative parameters and the functional outcomes of en-bloc Green laser Enucleation of the Prostate (GreenLEP) performed in live local operative workshops. METHODS Between July 2013 and January 2017, 204 consecutive patients underwent GreenLEP for BPO by one single surgeon. Perioperative data and early postoperative complications (according to Clavien-Dindo classification) were prospectively collected. Live operative Workshops program started locally in June 2015 according to the EAU policy on live surgery events. Outcomes were retrospectively compared between group 1 (GreenLEP procedures performed live) and group 2 (GreenLEP procedures performed under standard conditions). RESULTS Of the 116 procedures performed from June 2015 to January 2017, 37 were performed live during 17 workshops. The median number of attendants was 3 [2 ;6]. The patients' baseline characteristics were similar in terms of age, ASA, BMI, prostatic volume (90ml [66 ;120] versus 90ml [80 ;120] p=0.53), antiplatelet or oral anticoagulation medications, IPSS (19 [16 ;21] versus 18 [15 ;20] p=0.21), Qmax (5.2ml/sec [4.2 ;6] versus 4.5ml/sec [4 ;6] p=0.44) and indwelling catheter in both groups. Intra-operative parameters (including total energy, operative, vaporization and morcelling times), were also comparable in both groups: 62kJ [53 ;77] versus 56kJ [44 ;69] (p=0.068), 61min [53 ;71] versus 55min [45 ;66] (p=0.10), 18min [16 ;23] versus 17min [13 ;20] (p=0.06) and 3min [3 ;5] versus 4min [2 ;6] (p=0.82) respectively. Catheterization and hospitalisation times were also similar in both groups: 2 days [1 ;2] versus 2days [1 ;2] (p=0.16) and 2 days [2 ;3] versus 2 days [2 ;3] (p=0.59) respectively. Overall complications rate was comparable in the 2 groups: 18.92 % versus 23.6 % (p=0.64) including Clavien-Dindo grade 1 (2.7 % versus 5.6 %), grade 2 (16.2 % versus 13.5 %), grade 3a (0 % versus 1.2 %) and grade 3b (0 % versus 4.5 %). Functional outcomes are summarized in table 1. CONCLUSIONS GreenLEP was safe and provided satisfactory functional outcomes in both conditions. From this preliminary study, it seems that LCD did not jeopardize the surgeon's skill or technique. © 2018FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 199Issue 4SApril 2018Page: e991 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2018MetricsAuthor Information Vincent Misrai More articles by this author Marie Pasquie More articles by this author Benoit Bordier More articles by this author Julien Guillotreau More articles by this author Benoit Peyronnet More articles by this author Fernando Gomez-Sancha More articles by this author Henry Woo More articles by this author Thomas Herrmann More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
