METHODS: A total of 63 boys with a micropenis (less than -2.0 SD) 5 to 13 years old, without any chromosomal anomalies and other genital disorders, were examined retrospectively. BMI with body weight and body height, penile parameters (baseline and stretched penile length (BPL, SPL), penile circumference (PC)), and testicular volumes were measured. Before hormonal therapy, hcg stimulation test was checked. TE was given 4 times every 3 weeks at a dosage of 25 mg intramuscularly, and PL and TV were measured at least 4 weeks after the final injection. RESULTS: The mean age before TE therapy was 9.9±1.9 years (5.6-13.2 years). (Table 1) In hcg stimulation test, 61.9% of patients showed normal testosterone response. (Table 2) All penile parameters (SPL, PC, and BPL) were improved after TE therapy except testicular volumes. The testicular volumes also improved 6 months later. There was no correlation between hcg stimulation response and improvement of penile parameters and testicular volumes. (Table 3) CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that administration of 25 mg TE is effective for micropenis in prepubertal boys. The penile and testicular responsiveness to TE therapy is independent of the hcg stimulation response.
