Abstract

behavior was tested at day 14 post-surgery. In order to get sexual receptivity, 48 h previous to the test the females were treated with 10 ,g of benzoate estradiol and 44 h later 2 mg of progesterone was injected. During the coitus the urinary meatus of the female was zoom recorded in order to determine urine expulsion. Means among groups were compared with ANOVA, with P<0.05 indicating a significant difference. RESULTS: Sham surgery did not significantly modified the values of the urinary parameters. However, in DNCNX females voiding frequency (p<0.05) and voiding duration significantly increased (p<0.05). Flow rate, voiding volume and voiding interval were not significantly affected. Seventy percent of the DNCNX animals expelled urine just after a penile intromission or male ejaculation. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that genital deaferentation may be a causal factor of female coital urinary incontinence. Rats with bilateral transection of the DNC may be used as an animal model of coital incontinence.
