Abstract

Bromhexine is one of the most common mucolytic and expectorant drugs that can be used in respiratory diseases. One of the bromhexine metabolites is ambroxol. Previous studies suggested that ambroxol increases uric acid clearance and increases its renal exertion and produces urinary stone in rats. Another study on human showed that Ambroxol has an uricosuric action following administration of higher doses (250 mg-500 mg /bid.).
