Abstract

Interest in collecting archival materials in music libraries appears to be on the rise. This interest is accompanied by projects to identify and make available hidden archival collections. Despite these projects, little has been done to examine what real interest in archival music collections exists within the music library community. This article reviews current activities towards revealing hidden collections and analyzes the results of a survey examining interest in and management of archival music collections in North American music libraries. Based on this analysis, the article concludes with suggestions for further activity in documenting and providing resources for archival music collections.
