Our primary goal was to reach out to kids from communities with minority populations who are underrepresented in medicine. By promoting interactions between students early in their academic pursuits and health care professionals with similar backgrounds, we hoped to bring to the forefront of their developing minds the message from our first virtual DBTS: “there is potential in you, and we are proof that you, too, can succeed and be part of our health profession” (ASA Monitor 2021;85:32). Why is it imperative for ASA to participate in health care pipeline efforts involving underrepresented minorities?
