Abstract

Summary Mouna Ben Halima, owner and director of the Badira Hotel, was thrust into the business world at the young age of 24 on the death of her father, a leading Tunisian hotelier. Against the advice of many, including her investors, she opened a new style of luxury hotel, one that would cater to the emerging aspirations of both Tunisian and European tourists. In doing so, she was questioning decades of opinion concerning the nature of tourism in Tunisia. She did so as a female entrepreneur in a fast developing, but still quite traditional society.
