Abstract
The author describes how teams of diverse disciplines work in harmony to bring successful products to market. The advantages of this approach are discussed. Examples of its successful use are examined. The difficulties of overcoming the differences separating engineering and manufacturing are discussed. Finding the right personnel, the role of quality in this environment, and the problems of coordinating the resources of four or five departments in different plants, tracking a project's progress, and keeping it on schedule are considered. The miniature compact disk player is discussed as a case study.
