Abstract

Children need different restraint types and locations depending on their age and size. This article summarizes current child passenger safety recommendations for children ages birth to 8-10 years old. The biomechanical principles upon which the recommendations are based are described. It is suggested that the emergency physician is well suited to play the role of parent educator and political advocate for child passenger safety. Sources of further information and technical advice are provided.
