Abstract

International universities are becoming a more prominent part of the higher education landscape as the world becomes more global. Instructors are usually cognizant of what motivations domestic students but are they as sensitive to the motivational backgrounds of their international students? The largest group of international students in Korea is Chinese nationals. What motivates Chinese students in their own university setting and how that can translate into motivation for them here in Korea? To add insight to this issue the author arranged and analyzed a survey of 116 Chinese university ESL students from a well-known university in China.
