Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the driving force behind the economic development of a large number of countries. Taking into account the structure of the Serbian economy, we can say that small and medium enterprises are crucial for new jobs, an increase in tax revenues, an increase in exports, and the like. In the era of globalization, the success of the turbulent market requires separation from the mass of businesses. Regardless of the company's business, the market is hungry for innovation. Innovation is a condition for the survival of small and medium-sized enterprises for business in the modern era. The innovation process varies depending on the type of innovation the company wishes to apply. The recommendation for implementing a particular type of innovation is reflected in the implementation of the type of innovation for which a particular company has the capabilities and capacities. We can divide all innovation factors into internal and external ones. In the process of innovation, businesses face numerous obstacles. In order to survive on the market and earn profits, companies are condemned to innovate. For the sake of successful innovation, it is necessary to determine the appropriate type of innovation, the factors that influence innovation and the greatest obstacles to innovation. The subject of research of this paper is the examination of the innovativeness of small and medium enterprises operating in the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
