Abstract
The review throws light on topics related to the problem of nonsynchronism of the rotation in close binaries, and to steady and unsteady loss of matter by components of these binaries, including exchange of matter in contact systems. Theoretical models are considered for the motion of the gas in the circumstellar space, including loss of matter from the system. There is a discussion of processes of steady and unsteady accretion of gas, and also of models of outbursts in stars of the type exemplified by U Gem.
