Abstract

This chapter aims to establish the interrelationships among single dynamic event words and their relationship to the cognitive background established in the previous chapter. It also proposes that the semantic analysis offered by Talmy provides a bridging function between single words and early sentences. Topics discussed include body and mind in the experience and expression of meaning, motion events according to Talmy, image schemas with and without language, categories of dynamic event meaning, dynamic-event words and cognition, and dynamic-event words and early verbs.
