Abstract

Mossbauer spectroscopy provides information on an atomic scale and is a sensitive tool to detect local atomic arrangements. Such short range phenomenon as pre-precipitation, clustering and so forth that may be often difficult to resolve by the usual techniques of physical metallurgy can be studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy. In fact, this technique has been used to study structural changes during the initial stages of aging of iron-carbon martensite. The phase composition as well as distribution state of carbon and metallic alloying element before and after cold deformation in Fe-6Mn-2Cr-1C alloy aged at 350 C for 6h were studied by the use of Mossbauer spectroscopy in the present work.
