Abstract

A trigger circuit on the basis of 'Vertical' MOSFETs is described. It gives a 1.5 kV voltage step with 15 ns risetime at the cathode of a EG&G grounded grid thyratron. The thyratron is incorporated in a transverse-discharge nitrogen laser. The jitter in laser pulse emission, i.e. thyratron firing, is restricted to less than 1 ns.
