Abstract

A few-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) saturable absorber was successfully fabricated by thermally decomposing ammonium thiomolybdate through dip coating the mica and applying 2 µm Q-switched mode-locked (QML) Tm:YAP laser pulse generation. The modulation depth of the QML laser was close to 100%. The duration of the mode-locked pulse within the Q-switched pulse envelope is estimated to be ~100 ps with a 92.1 MHz repetition rate. A maximum average output power of 109 mW was obtained and the highest pulse energy in the Q-switched envelope was 1.18 nJ. The results indicated that MoS2-SA is available for ultrafast 2 µm lasers.
