Abstract

Mortality by cause of death, by age and by sex was investigated in six counties in Norway 1966–78. Each county was divided into urban, intermediate and rural regions, and according to occupational structure. Two expected mortality rates were computed. One taking the occupational structure, the other the population structure into consideration. Observed mortality differed little from expectation in five counties, except cardio-vascular mortality in one county which was significantly above expectation. In the sixth county, mortality was significantly below expectation. This is probably related to a more favourable life style than the Norwegian mean.
