Abstract

Adult Musca autumnalis DeGeer exposed to surfaces treated with 0.025, 0.05, and 0.075 mg of penfluron or BAY SIR 8514 (2-chloro-N-[[[4-(trifluromethoxy)phenyl] amino] carbonyl] benzamide) per cm2 for 1, 3, or 6 h were evaluated for treatment effect on egg hatch and F1 larval mortality. Inhibition of egg hatch and F1 larval mortality were dependent on exposure time, concentration, mating regime, and elapsed time after exposure. Exposed female flies mated with untreated males demonstrated more greatly inhibited egg hatch than exposed male flies mated with untreated females. A greater inhibition of egg hatch resulted when exposed females and males were mated to each other. Inhibition of egg hatch decreased as the flies aged. Both compounds demonstrated a greater mortality against F1 face fly larvae than against egg hatch.
