Abstract

The characteristics of drainage system and their impact on landforms are best understood through comprehensive morphometric study of the basin in which they are found. The significant morphometric research parameters involve linear, regional and relief aspects from which a general understanding of physiography, geology, recent diastrophism, rock material composition etc. can be assessed. Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) are important tools for determining morphometric analytical parameters. Different aspects of morphometric parameters were evaluated based on standard formulae/indices postulated by different authors and were examined in the context of sub watersheds of Budhabalang Basin. The study shows the amazing behaviour of the drainage channels extended with properties of large deposition and peak discharge. The river bank morphology of the study area has been shaped over the period and undergone continuous flood events due to its low relief and meandering pattern.
