Abstract

In order to investigate morphology variations on inner surface of silica crucibles such as brownish rings, Czochralski silicon crystals with varying diameter were grown from nondoped silicon melts. Remarkable growth of cristobalite appears with the crystal diameter enlarging. This result means that the growth of cristobalite on the inner surface of silica crucibles are closely related to the oxygen concentration in the silicon melts which strongly depends on the evaporation of silicon mono-oxide from the free melt surface.
