Abstract

The reproductive organs and spermatophore of Dioryctria abietella (Denis & Schiffermuller) are similar in general morphological characteristics to those of other Lepidoptera. Eggs were found in the bulla seminalis of many females but did not completely block sperm transmission. The aperture end of the spermatophore has a serrulate surface and exhibits a small horn. These microstructures probably serve to maintain alignment with the opening to the ductus seminalis.
