Abstract

The stalked adhesive knobs associated with the mycelium and germinated conidia of Dactylella lysipaga are illustrated by means of light and electron microscopy. The conidium is usually 4-celled and has a large subterminal cell. Cytoplasm of the subterminal cell of the conidium contains a substantial reserve of lipid which is utilized during spore germination. Germ-tubes, which may develop from the terminal, basal and sub-basal cells, have not been observed to be associated with the large subterminal cell of the conidium. The germ-tube may terminate in a stalked adhesive knob which provides the initial trap on the new thallus.
