Abstract
The surfaces of Hg1-xCdxTe samples used as targets in laser epitaxy were investigated by electron microscope methods. The samples were modified by two lasers: the YAG:Nd3+ and the excimer XeCl with pulse lengths of 40 and 25 ns, respectively, at different laser powers. The electrophysical properties of the samples were studied before and after irradiation. The morphological and structural properties of the surface investigated depend strongly on the type of laser pulse and on its energy. This provides two mechanisms for laser ablation of this material.
