Abstract

The adult female of a new pit scale species, Asterolecanium vittatum, is described and illustrated. Morphological characters that separate this species from other asterolecaniids are: large 8-shaped pores arranged in a single row (pores zigzag in cephalothoracic region) on margin and in 10 transverse rows on dorsum, 2-3 quinquelocular pores associated with antenna, and labium with 1 pair of setae. Close affinities of A. vittatum with other species on Acacia are noted.
