Abstract

AbstractMorphology and syntax must be demarcated it must be determined if a sequence of word constituents is a complex word or a phrase. The principle of Lexical Integrity serves this purpose: word constituents cannot be operated upon by syntactic processes. However, phrases can form parts of complex word such as compounds. Morphological processes also determine the valency of complex words, and can change their argument structure.
