Abstract

Using a needle–circle electrode configuration in an electrolyte solution of acetonitrile containing sodium p-toluenesulfonate and monomer, we prepared polypyrrole (PPy) with fractal pattern by electrochemical polymerization. We classify the growth patterns and draw a phase diagram on the basis of the experiments, investigating the relationship between fractal patterns and the growth conditions. A previously unrecognized morphological transition under constant voltage is reported. The microstructure of PPy is also displayed.
