Abstract
The morphology of carbon nanotubes synthesized by arc discharge in a CF4gas atmosphere was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The electronic properties of these nanotubes were investigated by electron spin resonance. The synthesis conditions in CF4gas were then compared with those in CH4, H2and He based on these results. Furthermore, the mechanism of tube growth in CF4gas was discussed briefly.
