Abstract

• Palladium sulfide nanoparticles prepared from dithiocarbamate precursor. • Tetragonal PdS obtained with particle size of 3–5 nm irrespective of thermolysis time. • Anticancer potential evaluated against HeK293 and HeLa cell lines. • PdS 1 and PdS 3 nanoparticles showed good cytotoxicity towards HeLa cell line. We report the influence of thermolysis time on the morphological, optical, and anticancer properties of palladium sulfide (PdS) nanoparticles. Powder X-ray diffraction of the as-prepared palladium sulfide nanoparticles confirmed tetragonal-PdS crystalline phase irrespective of thermolysis time. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs showed spherically shaped palladium sulfide nanoparticles with particle size in the range 3.00–5.10 nm with optical band gaps of 4.61 for PdS 1 prepared at 30 mins, 4.52 for PdS 2 prepared at 1 h, and 4.35 eV for PdS 3 prepared at 2 h. Anticancer potential of the palladium sulfide nanoparticles against HEK293 and HeLa showed PdS 1 and PdS 3 are potent against HeLa cells with IC 50 values of 6.25 and 5.71 μg/µL.
