Abstract

Five-year-old Vitis vinifera I., cv. Albariño vines from the cuttings of old vines and from in vitro propagation according to Ferro9s method (8) were compared. The vines were planted in soil, without grafting, and pruned to a Sylvoz system. Vines were grown under the same weather conditions. Several qualitative and quantitative parameters of different organs were studied at different stages of the vegetative cycle. Plants from in vitro propagation (as opposed to the plants produced from cuttings) had marked juvenile characteristics: high density of erect hairs, strong anthocyanin coloration, leaves with deep sinuses and very low and even non-existent fertility both due to the number and to the weight of the cluster.
