Abstract

In a preliminary experiment on salmon ranching, we set up a trap on a secondary tributary of a river supposedly void of anadromous salmonids. Using morpholine as an attractant, we captured two rainbow trout, four sea trout and three Atlantic salmon, all these fish being sexually mature. Besides an imprinting mechanism, morpholine can act as a nonspecific attractant to non-imprinted fish.
