Abstract

Life is bitter, short and uncertain - and death is, in a way, its obvious demonstration - although it may seem a supreme good to the eyes of the blind will to live. That's why, for Schopenhauer, it would be preferable that we renounce to the illusion of our individuality. Nietzsche turns the table and states life as simply a supreme good: delusive is the knowledge that makes life seem to us a burdensome dream, less desirable than the denial of death. However, the overturn of denial makes no sense to a content statement of an existence whose objective sufferings, imposed to the isolated individual, do not depend exclusively on him, but are attached to a system of social life that is not questioned.
