Abstract

Abstract Background Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an inflammatory immune disorder that occurs due to IgE-mediated hypersensitivity. Morin, a plant flavonoid exhibits inhibitory potential against IgE-mediated allergic diseases. Aim To evaluate the efficacy and possible mechanism of action of morin against ovalbumin (OVA)-induced AR in BALB/c mice. Materials and methods AR was induced in mice by OVA (500 μl, i.p.) and challenged (5 μl per nostril) on the 21st day. Mice were treated with morin (10, 30 and 100 mg/kg, p.o.) for 21 days. Results OVA-challenge caused significant (p Conclusion The findings of presented investigation demonstrated that morin exerts its anti-allergic effect against OVA-induced allergic rhinitis via inhibition of p-STAT6 that down-regulates expression of SOCS1 and GATA3/T-bet pathway which modulates the release of Th1/Th2 cytokines and IgE levels thus, inhibiting allergen-induced hypersensitivity.
