Abstract
TIM strives to provide the microbiology community with the definitive overview of new developments in the field. To this end, we welcome feedback and suggestions from all our readers and contributors, without whom there would be no journal. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our authors, as well as the unseen (but greatly appreciated) ranks of peer reviewers, for their thoughtful input over the past year. In particular, I would like to thank Cathel Kerr and Alexandra Venter for their contributions to the In Brief section, keeping us up to date with what is new and exciting in the world of microbiology. Finally, on behalf of the TIM team, I would like to wish all our readers and contributors a successful 2003.
