Abstract

The spherical harmonic PN approximation for a half space, non-equilibrium Marshak wave problem with an isotropic incident radiation flux impinging on the surface is shown to yield exact radiation energy density and material temperature at the boundary for all times when the Mark boundary condition is used. Numerical results of the standard P1 and diffusion approximations for the problem are compared amongst different boundary conditions.
