Abstract

The University of Minnesota, Duluth, Egyptian Eastern Desert Expedition has spent four seasons tracing an ancient caravan route through the southern Eastern Desert (map one). During that period we have examined the cassiterite (tin ore) resources along and near the route (Rothe and Rapp, 1994) and other mineral resources which were exploited during the Pharaonic period (Rothe and Rapp, in preparation).
