Abstract

The fruits of the recent Buxtehude anniversary continue to pour forth abundantly on CD. World première recordings of his sacred works continue to appear (though Ton Koopman's Opera Omnia series will naturally sweep up anything left), and here we have two excellent recordings of the magnificent large-scale polychoral motet Benedicam Dominum BuxWV 113, one in Ton Koopman's Opera Omnia V: Vocal works 2 (Challenge Classics CC72244, rec 2006–7, 151′) and the other in Roland Wilson's Eine Lübecker Abendmusik with La Capella Ducale and Musica Fiata (CPO 777 318–2, rec 2006, 78′). Duplications also continue, notably another Das Jüngste Gericht (CPO 777 197–2, rec 2005, 78′)—albeit incomplete—from Manfred Cordes and the Weser-Renaissance Bremen, and another Membra Jesu nostri (Carus 83.234, rec 2007, 69′), this one from Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Dresdner Kammerchor, bringing the total number of recordings of the latter to at least twelve.
