Abstract
An overview based on the recent studies in the author's laboratory. The important role of the chemical aspects of fine particle technology is introduced from various angles, among others, non-ideality of solids, particle deformation, chemical interaction with liquids or at solid/solid interface. Emphasis is laid on the consequences of low coordination states and bond deformation in the damaged crystalline states.
