Abstract

Unions create a need for themselves by showing employees that they aren't well treated by their employers—hence the need for a union to get them the respect they deserve. One way they do this is by urging employees to file complaints about the employer with government agencies. It is unknown whether the person who recently filed a whistleblower health and safety claim against Apple supports unionization and it hardly matters as her claim is exactly the kind of thing union proponents can use for campaigning on the issue that government agencies have found the employer has mistreated employees.
