Abstract
Summary Some comments are offered on the history of Saussure’s reception and on the relation between the text of the Cours de linguistique générale and (a) the manuscript material on which it is based, and (b) Saussure’s own reflections, in as far as they are ascertainable. The discussion leads up to a review of Simon Bouquet’s Introduction à la lecture de Saussure (Paris, 1997).
