Jean-Christophe Attias : Mordekhai Komtino, Judeo-Byzantine exe-gete and teacher, and Karaism (XVth century) A study of the relationship of the Rabbanite M. Komtino with Karaism and the Karaites — a section of his audience — brings out the possible ambiguous nature assumed, in the Jewish society of Constantinople in the fifteenth century, by the handing on of learning, hence of power, inherent in any exegetical activity or teaching in an era of transition.
