Abstract

Moral stress is caused by decisions regarding ethical conflicts that do not coincide with one's values. This chapter discusses the relevance and prevalence of moral stress within the veterinary profession. The most common ethical dilemmas that cause moral stress are described, and the consequences of moral stress on career satisfaction and mental health are examined. Risk factors for moral stress are discussed and problem-based and emotion-based strategies for preventing and coping, respectively, with moral stress are described.
