Abstract
A within subjects design was used to evaluate the effect of mood on repeated brief exposure to phobic stimuli. Physiological responses to slides of spiders and landscapes were measured while spider phobic subjects were consecutively in induced elated and depressed moods in counterbalanced order. The results suggest that habituation to phobic stimuli occurring in depressed mood may not be as enduring as habituation in elated mood.
