Abstract

The Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) has changed the way of learning. It has made learners more independent in terms of acquiring information and knowledge at their discretion at anytime, anywhere and through any medium (i.e. Computer, mobile phone etc.) crossing the barriers of language, space and money. Today MOOC providers have global reach and audience to serve. The MOOC has transformed free education into collaborative lifelong learning to acquire new knowledge and skills. This paper highlights the different types of MOOCs, their benefits issues and challenges with some examples of functional MOOCs at international and national level.
