Abstract

Winds are the critical factor in determining regional weather patterns and global climate. NASA Scatterometer (NSCAT) aboard Japan's Advanced Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS, Midori) continually observed the global ocean surface wind speed and direction from September 1996 to June 1997. In the present article, the monthly mean global ocean surface winds observed by NSCAT will be shown. This provides a better description of atmospheric circulation over the global oceans.
