Abstract
A total of 1671 violent incidents occurred in March 2023. The incidents are mostly triggered by politics, access to resources, and other socio-economic factors. More than 298 deaths and 1671 injuries have been recorded from these incidents. Around 3472 people have been arrested in March connected to violent incidents. Some 174 properties have been destroyed in the same time. The highest number of violent incidents have been recorded as clashes and attacks (439). Some 315 incidents of political violence were also recorded at the same time and 21 deaths were directly triggered by politics. Geographically, Chittagong (344) scores the highest number of violence followed by Dhaka (331), Rajshahi (303), and Khulna (261). The ruling Awami League held peace rally in all unions across Bangladesh to counter the march program of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The Awami Jubo League, the youth organization of the Awami League, also held rallies in all metropolitan areas and districts except in Dhaka. Political incidents and violence was 15% less in March than previous because of the holy Ramadan. While some 57% of political conflict and violence contributed by Bangladesh Awami League & affiliates, 31% contributed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) & affiliates.
