Abstract
Abstract ‘Montecarlo’ (P288) and ‘Monterosa’ (P358) are ‘Borlotto’-type dry beans with determinate type I plant habit (Singh, 1982) and resistance to bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) and halo blight [Pseudomonas syringae pv phaseolicola (Burk.) Dows.] (Hill et al., 1972; Drifjhout et al., 1978). Both were developed at the Experimental Institute for Vegetable Crops, Montanaso Lombardo, Italy. ‘Borlotto’ is a shell bean traditionally grown in Italy for direct marketing of ripe pods and dry seeds or for processing. ‘Borlotto’ has seeds with red stripes on a beige background at maturity and is similar to ‘Taylor's Horticultural’ (Asgrow Seed).
