Abstract

Monte Carlo simulation and the mean-spherical model have been used to obtain static correlations in a hard-square lattice gas. The results indicate a second-order transition at the critical wave-vector q c= π a(1, 1) when nearest neighbours are excluded. The chemical potential, calculated by the Widom method, and the pair distribution function, however, indicate no order/disorder transition when next nearest neighbours are excluded.
