Abstract
On an 8 4 lattice the existence or non-existence of a free charge is studied in the Coulomb and Higgs phases of the lattice U(1) gauge Higgs model with Higgs charge two and a frozen radial degree of freedom. The Monte Carlo results are also compared to those obtained by means of mean field techniques.
