Abstract

Abstract The Monte Carlo (MC) method is applied to calculate the Hall mobility μH, the drift mobility μD, and the Hall factor rH for conduction electrons in the strongly ionic crystal AgCl. We resolve the controversy on the value of the drift velocity of streaming electrons in AgCl by carefully taking into account the correct value for the Hall factor in analysing the experimental results of Komiyama et al. [Phys. Rev. B20 , 5192 (1979)]. Also good agreement is found for the field dependence of the Hall angle, except in the accumulation regime for high electric fields.
